POLICY REQUEST FORM

This policy request form serves as the means through which faculty and/or staff may propose recommended institutional, administrative, and/or departmental policy creation, revision, and/or removal.  This form should be utilized for all newly proposed policies, revisions to, or removal of current existing institutional, administrative, and/or departmental policies, which are defined as:

  • Institutional Policy: An institutional policy is an official directive of broad and direct application across all students, faculty departments, and administrative units of the College.  As such, institutional policies impose binding obligations on faculty, students, and/or staff, as applicable.  The purpose of institutional policies is to ensure through uniform standards and procedures (i) compliance with applicable laws and regulations and accreditation standards, (ii) adoption of operational efficiencies and best practices, and/or (iii) promotion of mission-centered values and objectives.
  • Administrative/Departmental Policies: An administrative/departmental policy is a statement of the standards, practices, and/or procedures of a faculty department or an administrative unit of the institution as promulgated by such department or unit.  Administrative/departmental policies pertain to matters within the exclusive function of a particular faculty department/administrative unit, notwithstanding possibly broad impact across the university

All institutional, administrative, and/or departmental policy requests will be submitted to the Compliance Group for review in order to designate responsibility, recommend stakeholders, monitor policy draft development, and facilitate necessary approvals through faculty and administrative channels, including the Board of Trustees, as necessary.

BACKGROUND/REASON FOR PROPOSED NEW POLICY, REVISION OF POLICY, AND/OR REMOVAL OF POLICY

Explain any relevant background to and reasons for the proposed policy.  Indicate whether the policy is a new policy, revision to an existing policy, or request for removal of an existing policy.  If relevant, discuss how the proposed policy relates to existing Thomas More College policies.  Identify any legal or regulatory requirements that the proposed policy aims to address.

Summarize the principles of the proposed policy.

STAKEHOLDERS/AUDIENCE

Identify the members of the Thomas More College community who will be affected by the policy, including those who may be involved in implementation.  These stakeholders may be consulted during the development of the proposed policy, along with other stakeholders as determined by the Compliance Group.  The Compliance Group will assist with identifying potential stakeholders, as necessary.
